Quad-Four Survivor: 1990 Chevrolet Beretta GTZ

It's truly hard to believe, but in less than two months, 2017 will draw to a close and 2018 will be welcomed cordially with open arms. With that, cars that were once considered throwaways will now become more and more desirable and collectible. A prime example is this 1990 Chevrolet Beretta GTZ, a rare sight in any condition. Find it here on eBay in Cadillac, Michigan, with reserve not met and a little under four hours left to bid.

Introduced in 1990 as a replacement to the GTU model, the Beretta GTZ was the top-tier model in the Beretta lineup. Featuring a lower-body monochrome body kit with matching monochrome aluminum wheels, the GTZ eschewed subtlety for aggressiveness. This Beretta GTZ is a first-year 1990 model, and is a rare sight in any condition today. Painted in a monochromatic white, this Beretta GTZ looks to be in good, original condition. Stored in a pole barn and rarely driven over the past ten years, the tires do need replacing, but other than that and a nice cleaning and detailing, the exterior presents very well and needs nothing.

As part of the GTZ package, Oldsmobile's Quad-4 four cylinder engine was utilized. Rated at 180 horsepower and 160 lb-ft of torque, the Quad-4 powered GTZ boasted a 0-60 time of 7.6 seconds and posted one of the best slalom times of any front-wheel drive car. Backed by a Getrag five-speed manual transmission, the GTZ also utulizes the GTU's FE7 suspension as standard equipment, making for an amazing performance car overall. Having sat for ten years, the muffler is shot, and overall I would go over the drivetrain top to bottom and make sure everything is in working order. I would also add some performance upgrades to the Quad-4 and go performance import-car hunting.

Is anybody else digging the peace sign necklace hanging from the rearview mirror? Inside, this Beretta GTZ is resplendent with a grey cloth interior; areas of concern include some wrinkles in the driver's-side cloth seat, heat damage to to the door panels by the window, and heat damage to the dash. An optional cassette player is a nice bonus, as is the console and manual shift. Overall, this Beretta GTZ needs a bit of work, but once addressed, should make for a great sleeper at the local asphalt racetrack or autocross. What are your thoughts on this clean, rarely-seen first-year Beretta GTZ?
