Try Finding Another One: 1989 Eagle Premier ES

Remember when AMC and Renault teamed up together to try and save AMC's bacon? AMC had fallen on hard times in 1979, and in the mid-1980s AMC teamed up with Renault to try to resurrect its sales. Unfortunately, that plan backfired, and in 1987 AMC was bought out by Chrysler. Rebranded as Eagle, AMC's Alliance models initially continued to be sold. A prime is this Eagle Premier ES, a low-mile survivor 1989 model that is in great, survivor shape. Find it here on eBay in Cream Ridge, New Jersey, with a Buy-It-Now price of $2,100.

Introduced in September 1987 as a 1988 model, the Eagle Premier was derived from the Renault Medallion. Sold from September 1987 to December 1991 (as a 1992 model), the Premier was never a sales success and was replaced by the Vision in 1993. This Premier is a 1989 ES model, and is one of 43,179 built for 1989. Resplendent in a two-tone white and gray, this Premier ES looks brand new, and shines like a diamond in a goat's ass. I dig the white with gray lower-body cladding, and the classic late-1980s styling aged very well. I would use this as a nice-weather daily driver and take this local shows.

Taking a peek under the hood, you'll notice that the engine is a 3.0L OHC port fuel-injected V6. Rated at 150 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, performance is nothing to write home about, but this is the same PRV V6 used in the Delorean DMC-12, and when a pair of turbos were mounted, performance figures skyrocketed. Backed by a four-speed automatic, fuel consumption is decent at 21 city/ 24 highway, and given the low mileage (46,568 original miles), this would be a perfect family car. I would drive it as-is for a while before slapping on a pair of turbos to build a sleeper, performance sedan.

I haven't even sat in the interior and I'm already liking it! Resplendent in a maroon velour interior, the inside of this Premier ES is "mint". Everything is clean as a whistle, and I love the fact that this car has analog gauges. I also dig the console, side-stalk switches mounted on the steering column, and the glovebox cup holders, which remind me of the set up in my dad's 1993 GMC 2500 2WD pickup. Overall, this is one of the nicest Eagle Premiers in existence, and given the low mileage and low price, this could be a great bargain. What are your thoughts on this low-mile Eagle Premier ES?
