See you on the Dark Side of the Moon: 1975 Chevrolet G10 Van
One of the coolest automotive trends making a comeback is the so-called van craze. Featuring bold, outrageous murals and mag wheels, I have been an active participant of the van craze with my 1978 Dodge Tradesman 200 (though my does not have any bold murals...yet). Vintage custom vans thusly have a soft spot in my heart, and this 1975 Chevrolet G10 Van is definitely pulling at my heartstrings with its Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" mural. Find it here on eBay in Thurston, Ohio, with a Buy-It-Now price of $3,650.
Introduced in 1964 to replace the Corvair-based vans, Chevrolet's G-Series vans were fully redesigned, featuring a short nose and hood. This G10 van is a 1975 model, and is a bit deviated from stock. Featuring a two-tone blue and white paint scheme with a previously-mentioned "Dark Side of the Moon" mural and oval rear side windows, there is a bit of rust on the wheel wells and rockers, and the passenger-side fender is dented and rusted. Stored from the mid-1980s to 2011, this van was purchased by the seller that year and has been left virtually untouched on the outside. I would drop the van down a bit (not slamming it), address the rust, swap the mag wheels for a set of US Mags Indy wheels, ditch the generic tires for a set of Pro-Trac tires, and take the necessary steps to preserve the mural and paint.
Though most vans put their emphasis on "show", this G10 Van has the "go" to match its "show". Underneath the doghouse is a built 327 SBC V8; built in 2014, the 327 features a .030 bore-over, hypereutectic pistons, Vortec heads, a mild RV camshaft, and a brand-new 600 CFM aluminum Holley carburetor. Backed by a three-speed TH-400 automatic and spinning 3.08 gears, the drivetrain constantly gets 13-15 mpg while driving and has tons of low-end torque. I would add a Gear Vendors overdrive unit to the TH-400, build up the 327 a bit more, dress it to a period 1970s look, and rip some long, smoky burnouts.
This view is almost as trippy as the "Dark Side of the Moon" mural on the outside! Featuring a blue, white and floral pattern interior, this interior was customized in 1975 by the Van Masters in Columbus, Ohio. I definitely dig the blue shag and floral patterns; the floral patterns are reminiscent of the Mod Top Plymouths from the late-1960s and early-1970s. The orange armchair also reminds me of the Gas Monkey Tequila van. Overall, this is a very cool Chevy van from the "van craze" era, and though a bit needy exterior-wise, the drivetrain and interior definitely are huge selling points. What are your thoughts on this custom G10 van?
