Approved and Signed by Gene Winfield: SBC-Powered 1967 Citroen 2CV





























From time to time, there are car enthusiasts that build the car that brings a vision to life that most likely wasn't pictured by anyone except for the builder. I've always been an advocate for hot rods that are dare-to-be different, especially considering the cars in my collection. A perfect example is this 1967 Citroen 2CV hot rod, which not only got a thumbs-up from hot-rodder Gene Winfield, he put his John Hancock on the dash! Find it here on Craigslist in Caro, Michigan, with an asking price of $17,000 obo.




























Though the original 2CV was France's darling, affordable mode of transportation back in the 20th century, the way this car is built, the theme is more like Turbo the snail. Built and shown at the 2014 Detroit Autorama, this 2CV was put on a 1988 Chevrolet S10 two-wheel drive chassis with a custom rear end. Painted in burnt orange, modifications on the exterior include a scratch-built chin spoiler, a mesh grille, chrome teardrop headlights, a custom tube rear bumper, side-exit exhaust, and slotted mag wheels. I would swap the slotted mags for a set of US Indy slotted mags wrapped in a set of blackwall bias-look radial tires




























Though this 2CV originally utilized a 424 cc two cylinder, that motor has been replaced with an early-1970s Chevrolet four-bolt main 350 small block. Punched out to 360 cubic inches and disguised to look like a 327, horsepower is upped to 360, with torque around the same. Backed by a 700R4 four-speed automatic, the motor looks like it would be right at home in a gasser. I would build up the engine a bit more by swapping on a set headers and some other performance parts.




























Much like the original drivetrain, the stock interior is long gone, replaced by an interior built for function. The front seats appear to be 1970s GM wrapped in black vinyl, the steering wheel appears to be a sprint car piece, and the dash is scratch built with 400% more gauges than a stock 2CV. The floor ratchet shifter is cool, as is the roll cage that pops up where the sunroof is. This 2CV hot rod is a car I definitely wish I would have built, and given the fact that there is only 100 miles on it since completion and Gene Winfield's signature, this vehicle is truly one of a kind.
