Go-Pack Four-Speed Survivor: 1973 AMC Javelin AMX

Are there any car enthusiasts and collectors out there that remember AMC? AMC has always seemed to be overshadowed by Detroit's Big Three (General Motors, Ford and Chrysler), but for a brief period of time, AMC decided to drop its economy-car roots and step up against the Big Three with a succession of sporty, high-performance models. Two of those models were the Javelin and AMX, which were conceived to compete against the Big Three's pony cars. This car is a 1973 AMC Javelin AMX, which features the Go-Package and is an unrestored survivor. Find it here on eBay in Beecher, Illinois, with reserve not met and a Buy-It-Now price of $18,000.

After being its own distinctive model from 1968 to 1970, the two-seat AMX was discontinued and shuffled to the Javelin lineup, where it became the top high-performance option on the Javelin for 1971. This Javelin AMX is a 1973 model, and is one of 5,707 AMXs built for 1973. Painted in Cordoba Brown with brownish-tan stripes, the seller says the car was repainted in the 1980s, and says the paint needs to be wet-sanded, buffed and lightly touched-up to remove some light scratches. The Rally wheels have been powdercoated, and look sharp wrapped in a set of BF Goodrich Radial T/As. The factory Ram-Air hood and ducktail rear spoiler add a sporty and aggressive touch to the car, and the seller includes a new front bumper from AMD.

Though a 401 V8 was the top-engine option in the Javelin AMX, this Javelin AMX is backed by a 360 V8 and a four-speed manual transmission. The 360 currently in this Javelin AMX is not numbers-matching (the original 360 V8 and components are included with the sale of the car), but is nicely built up with an Edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold, internal oil mods from Blue Monkey, and Flowmaster Series 40 mufflers. Featuring Ram-Air and a 3.54 Twin-Grip rear-end, this Javelin AMX should perform nicely; I could see this car racing at the Pure Stock Drags in Michigan. The clutch and fuel system are also all-new, so this car should drive and perform nicely.

Remember when interiors were as simple and cool like this Javelin AMX's is? Featuring a saddle brown interior, this Javelin AMX is nicely spec'd with a console, three-spoke steering wheel, engine-turned dash and door-panel trim, and Rally dash with tick-tock-tach. The interior appears to be nice and original, and I like the cloth and vinyl seats. Manual windows are a plus for me, as is the AM/FM radio. Overall, this Javelin AMX would be a nice buy for the price, and would be a perfect way to stand out in the car show crowd, especially amongst Mustangs, Camaros and Challengers. I would touch up the paint, build up the 360 a bit more and take this car to the Pure Stock Drags and Woodward Dream Cruise. What are your thoughts on this survivor Go-Pack Javelin AMX?
